OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES :

Walking - The range of walking routes is immense, anything from an easy stroll to the River Tay or Caputh Hill or a 1 hour walk along awesome riverbank to Dunkeld. There is also The Hermitage where there are very large Douglas Fir trees (some of the largest in Britain at 65 metres), with a tremendous waterfall at Ossian's hall. There are many river and loch walks , 1 hour to The Cairngorms for something more extreme!
Mountain Biking – Excellent mountain biking with mile upon mile of local trails, much of it "singletrack" – all very accessible and close by! We have experienced MTB all over the world, but rate this as one of the best areas. Contact us for advice on where to go for all the hidden trails! Fishing – salmon & trout fishing on the River Tay. Loch fishing also available.
Bird Watching – Scottish Wildlife Trust owned Loch of The Lowes visitor centre has Ospreys and is only 10 mins drive. The vast variety of landscape & habitats in the area allows for a huge variety of bird life including Eagles, Red Kites and Capercaillie – contact us for more information.
Wildlife – this area is wonderful for many different types of wildlife and includes Pine Martins just outside the village, as well as Red Squirrels, Otters and many types of Deer.
Golf – Dunkeld 18 hole course 10 mins drive – visitors welcome. Courses also at Blairgowrie, Pitlochry, Strathtay, Scone

Local shops – NISA in Murthly (1 mile) open daily 5am-8pm, Dunkeld for fantastic butcher, salmon smokehouse & deli, Ballathie House farm shop 4 miles (closed Monday)
House of Bruar on A9 north of Blair Athol (40 mins) – fantastic food hall
Supermarkets – 24 hour Tescos in Perth (A9 exit for Football stadium) & Blairgowrie

The Taybank, Dunkeld – great pub grub, famous for its music sessions -10 mins drive
Meiklour Hotel, Meiklour – good pub restaurant with lovely garden -10 mins drive
Stewart Tower ice ream parlour, Bankfoot Road – 10 mins drive
Birnam Institute Café – good coffees and home baking
Bankfoot Inn Bankfoot, 4 miles south. Excellent pub food and friendly welcome - live music on Wednesday evenings
